Let me start out by stating the following: I am not a fan of the term ‘corporate social responsibility’, because it separates out something that should be integral. I believe the future of business is about doing good and making money simultaneously – but not in the way the corporate world currently operates, which sees this as ‘We make money, and then we do good by writing checks to causes to clear our conscience’. ‘Corporate social responsibility’ becomes a way of separating out the ‘writing checks’ bit and ticking the box – ‘Good, done!’
